The summery of my latest paper

The article is basicly about how the military can’t win the war on suicide. The there is more deaths of soldiers that committed suicide then there is of soldiers who los their lifes in Afghanistan. According to the Secretary of Defence this issue is the most hardest thing he has had to deal with. The Pentegon’s Help line is one way to help but with waiting up to an hour that gives enough time to think of the option of suicide. It is sad seeing our troops coming back and killing them selfs, so this article is put on the table to show that this topic has importance.

War on Sucide

In their scholarly article “The War on Suicide” (2012) by Mark Thompson and Nancy Gibbs state that the veterans from 2001 through 2012 that have committed suicide has trespassed the number of deaths of soldiers from the war in Afghanistan. The first give an example of two soldiers who committed suicide and proceed to what important people have to say about this issue. Next the authors talk the stress the soldiers have also with the social stigma and the help of getting mental assistance. If you are or have a family member that is in the military then this is an article worth reading.

The prison Video

The TED video was actually pretty good. The guy is talking about prisons and about the dead row. He also was trying to get us to get the whole concept that words have energy or power. To me I feel that he is cool since he knew Rosa Parks and was a lawyer for Doctor King that is always nice to know. I agree with what Mr. Brain is fighting for, the equality of prison and dead row. It is not fair that a Black or Hispanic has a larger possibility to go jail or prison for life than a white person. Take the guy that shot and killed 12 people at the Aurora Theater; he is in a mental instituted when clearly he was smart because he was top of class in his university. If it would have been a Black or Hispanic guess what dead sentence no options and no bail bond. This is horrible and yes America needs to fix this. I also agree with Mr. Brain that a kid should not be trailed as an adult.

Column summery

This column is about the U.S. News magazine and the rankings of colleges. It is stating that schools that spend more money and increase tuition are in the number one spots in the magazine’s ranking as the best schools. If you go to a school such as Texas A&M that has a better graduation percentage and is way cheaper, just because of the money being spent is not a good school but you could be getting the same education. The author thinks this is absurd and that is why he created this column to open people’s eyes.

ethos-logos-pathos chart for column

Ethos:
Joe Nocera NY Times columnist, U.S. News & World, U.S. News magazine not only rankes Universities but law schools, Graduate schools, and even high schools.

Pathos:
“Harvard, Princeton, Yale, and Columbia are at top of list for best Universities in the states, but are they;” “ Exercise is a little silly” “and they imbue these rankings with an authority that is largely unjustified” “Better ranking, they need to spend money like mad — even though they will have to increase tuition that is already backbreaking.” “If you figure out how to do the same service for less money, your U.S. News ranking will go down,” “Those who don’t land a prestigious admission feel like failures.” “I have no doubt that you can obtain a very good education at Texas A&M. As you surely can at many other institutions that don’t crack the top of the U.S. News rankings.”

Logos:
This list is made by magazines editors. This list probably keeps the enterprise alive charging $34.95 to see the web site and they imbue these rankings with an authority that is largely unjustified. “U.S. News cares a lot about how much money a school raises and how much it spends: on faculty; on small classes; on facilities; and so on. It cares about how selective the admissions process is.” “High school students — pushed by parents, guidance counselors and society itself — is to get into a “good” school.” bang for the buck.” “Its top-ranked national universities this year are the University of California-San Diego and Texas A&M. Neither is ranked in the top 30 by U.S. News. All they do is graduate a higher percentage of students than you would expect given their populations — at a reasonable price.”

Obama's: Christina Saralegui's add

The first thing that grabbed my attention is that it is a well-known Hispanic TV conductor in the video. She looks very serious when talking and she gives the confidence that she knows what she is talking about. What is important in this video is that she implies that we need to move forward and not backwards and that with Obama we will move forward. She has a good style to provoke us to vote for Obama very emotional tone of voice. Like I said she looks very serious and confident so I it makes everything of Obama feel right. The argument in this video is that when Obama went in as president the economy was horrible and he helping to bring it back. If we vote for Rodney we will go back and we need to go forward.

A sin that makes us cowards

This picture caught my attention because of the quote and the meaning to a man. I am a man and that is true, I got to give my voice in order to get what I want and if I don't I have failed. I must give my voice for others if they do not have the voice I got. I say Abraham Lincoln was a very smart man and I this quote prove that he is. I love the quote the color really got tome the black and gold as if golden is the top so it seems like this quote is the top and a way that one shall live.

Obama vs. Rodney videos

In Rodney’s video what caught my eye or my ear was the music, it was kind of sad. In Obama’s video what caught my eye was ex-president Bill Clinton. In the video of Rodney I saw snow and even the Olympics. In Obama’s it was all of the 9/11 catastrophe. In my opinion what has been done and what is aimed in the future is more important and Obama has that video. If I see blue it calms me down and if I see red it gets me in a different mood but when I see the nation’s colors I get the chills. An image say a thousand words if you see a sad picture you get sad, if you see a happy picture then you get happy it is all in emotions. I did not put much attention to the text but what people said about the people how supported and that plays a big role for example one of Rodney’s followers said he was a cheap son of a gun, that only did not sound appropriate but gave bad rep to Rodney in my eyes. In Rodney’s video the argument he is making is that he will fix the United States economy and that they have a happy family. In Obama’s his argument is that he has done much for the country that it could get better in another four years with him being president. Bringing other top of the line people can really help out in the ethos like Obama and Bill Clinton. The 9/11 is a good way to bring up pathos and logos is seeing a happy family.

Gaming blog

Dr. Jane McGonigal is making a good argument. In most arguments you need a problem on current events such as hers which is, there are too many conflicts in the world. Also there is millions or billions of hours put in on online games by gamers in the world each week. So that is what is happening today. She uses ethos and logos in this process with statistics and studies from credible sources. Next she then brings in the proposal or the solution to the conflicts in the world. There for video games and video gamers will save the human race from their conflicts and from total annihilation. If you ask me this plays with your mind, if you think about it is pathos since I don’t want to die or my younger siblings to do so. After this she gives to us what I call solvency. This step tells us what is going to happen when gamers are in the real world ready to save the tribe. Know she states that she has made some games as experiments to see how online gamers do in what could happen in some years from now. The first subject was if there was no oil or gas and the planet how would the people react. She then states that people have gotten habits from this game and others to live their normal lives much more careful. Another interesting thing she does is give a story. She has a story to kind of give us another perspective of the situation. The dice theory was very eye or ear catching and this is using ethos and pathos because of the study behind it and the fact that Libyans solved their hunger problem and then became the Roman Empire, I felt proud of that. If you ask me she has all the essentials to make a good argument. If I agree with her is a different story. To make things short the military outweighs gamers. Military are more experienced in the field and in real live missions and gamers only in the television. In games you get killed and you get revived and back in the game but in real live your dead and guess what the chances are you will stay dead. So no I do not agree.

préci for chapter 1 in choices

In chapter 1 Joe Marshall Hardin author of “Choices 2.0” he tells us that if we plan our writing we can be have successful paper. He say that if you write ideas down then such as prewrites then drafting and revising you should have a good paper. He also talks about the rhetorical triangle and that in order to have a better argument, us the writers should know who the readers are and then manipulate the information of what you are talking about. I can clearly see that he is trying to convince people how may not have or understand the ways of writing and arguing because he is using a lecture tone.

Choices intro Préci

In the introduction Joe Marshal Hardin the author of “Choices 2.0 Situations for College writing” claims that college students say that they do not have a talent for writing. They usually say they are more of a math or science but writing no when writing really is a skill to learn. He also states that in order to write a good paper you must work hard. He needs to make his point clear since this is a college book and he is trying to get us to not block ourselves from writing.
